I’m Starting With The Man In

The Mirror

I’m Asking Him To Change

His Ways

And No Message Could Have

Been Any Clearer

If You Wanna Make The World

A Better Place

Take A Look At Yourself, And

Then Make A Change

Do you recognize this song?

It’s Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror.

I just heard it again at one of the best shows I’ve seen in my life: Cirque de Soleil – Michael Jackson The Immortal Tour.

Amazing, touching show. If you have a chance to see it, do so, because it’s worth every penny of it!

Well, the words say it all.

So did Sangwan’s last week.

Sangwan is my masseuse. An amazing Thai woman who does an EXTRAORDINARY job. You feel she’s there for you 100% when she treats you. I love going to her. I respect her a lot because she hasn’t had an easy life and yet, she makes the best out of it.

Last week we had a little misunderstanding about an appointment and I think I over reacted and got unnecessarily upset. At a certain point she told me:

“Nancy, you’re nervous” (exactly what I love to hear when I’m  upset!).

Me: “I’m not nervous, but it really upsets me that you change the appointment without telling me…bla, bla, bla”

Sangwan: “You’re nervous, look,(and she pointed the mirror) look yourself in the mirror”.

Shoot!

Yes, I was really upset, and I was ready to explode when I remembered the feeling I had when I heard Man in the Mirror a few weeks ago at the show.

“Yes Sangwan, you’re right, I’m nervous, thank you”.

In my readiness to leave and take care of my many things to take care of in my to do list, I looked myself in the mirror and told myself “Remember to start the change”.

This is it.

A couple of my acting principles in life are:

  • If you want something, give it first, do it first, and,
  • You cannot control what others do but only what YOU do.

So this is my invitation to you:

Look yourself in the mirror before blaming others for how your life goes.

It’s hard to take your own responsibilities and act upon them, but if you don’t do it now, you must have to eventually.

It pulls you back to analyze why you are doing what you’re doing and where it’s taking you, is that what you want?

As Mother Teresa said:

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”

And so can you.

Have a great week-end!
